New York (WCBS 880) -- It's that time of year when folks string up lights and put out their best inflatable Santa. Check out this list of some of the best holiday light displays in the tri-state area.
1. World Financial Center: Winter Garden Holiday Lights
Free 7p-11p every day through Jan 9th. 100,000 lights adorn the palm trees in the Winter Garden making this one of New York's more unique light displays.
2. Garabedian Family's Christmas House
For 29 years the Garabedian family has been putting on a truly spectacular display for their neighbors and friends. Featuring over 200 animatronic figurines, this display is sure to please fans of holiday displays. Located at Pelham Parkway and Westervelt Avenue.
3. Santa's Corner - Bayside Queens
At the corner of 166th St & 23rd Ave, in Bayside Queens there is quite a display with numerous houses wrapped in lights and lawn ornaments. This neighborhood has been known to have some of the best all around displays in New York, so check it out. Click here for a map.
4. Elvis House - Mahwah New Jersey
Located about 30 minutes from NYC on Victoria lane in Mahwah, NJ, this house uses so many lights that it's rumored to cost the owner $200 a night in electricity. Expect some traffic in front of the house.
5. Holiday Safari - Bayshore LI
Located at 47 Awixa Avenue in Bay Shore, Long Island, this display consists of 3 acres of displays for all the winter holidays. It's only open on December 21st fomr 5 to 9 p.m. so be sure to get there on time. Click here for a map.
6. Dyker Lights - Dyker Heights, Brooklyn
The displays run from 11th Avenue to 13th Avenue and from 83rd to 86th Street. This neighborhood is so famous for its light displays that they have there on PBS documentary titled Dyker Lights. Be prepared for serious traffic jams as this is one of the best light displays in the 5 boroughs.
7. Holiday Light Show - Bayport, LI
Located at 1500 Lakeview Ave, this light display is drive thru and features 3D viewing glasses to enjoy the lights in a totally new way. It runs till December 30th but is closed on Christmas eve and Christmas day.
8. Grand Central Kaleidoscope Light Show
Every half hour in Grand Central's main concourse from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm the Sky Ceiling is illuminated by a multitude of lights as holiday music plays. There are also special holiday shops set up in the teminal. The display runs till January 1st.
9. Fantasy of Lights in New Haven, CT
The 12th annual Fantasy of Lights runs through December 31st and features a leisurely drive through Lighthouse Point Park. From more information including directions and hours click here.
10. Bright Nights at Forest Park - Springfield, MA.
Although a bit out of the way, Bright Nights is well known throughout New England and the tri-state as one of the East Coast's best light displays. It runs through January 3rd and is in its 14th year of operation. Click here for more information including a map and directions.
