Camels Will March in 2009 Three Kings Parade in Manhattan
|
NEW YORK (AP) -- The three wise men are riding again. Camels, that is.
A New York City parade put on by the Latino cultural institution El Museo del Barrio celebrates the biblical journey of the three kings to Bethlehem after the birth of Jesus Christ.

Organizers had eliminated the three camels traditionally ridden by the royalty from Tuesday's parade through upper Manhattan because of city budget cuts.
But Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Office of Immigrant Affairs secured a donation from Atlantis Management Group, which develops gas stations and Dunkin' Donuts shops. Residents also made contributions toward the $3,500 needed to rent the camels and five sheep.
The animals will accompany the men depicting the kings who took the baby Jesus gold, frankincense and myrrh.
