Kenneth Cole Billboard Pays Tribute to US Airways Flight 1549
|
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A Manhattan billboard for fashion designer Kenneth Cole has often been used to make a statement. Its latest message is no exception.
The billboard, which is poised over the West 57th Street entrance to the West Side Highway, now says "In tough times, some land on their feet (others on the Hudson). - Kenneth Cole."
It is a tribute to the skill of pilot Chesley ``Sully'' Sullenberger, who after US Airways flight 1549's engines were disabled (likely by geese), guided his aircraft to a safe splash landing on the cold Hudson River. Everyone got out alive when the plane went down on Thursday, January 15, 2009.

It is also a tribute to the men and women who rescued the passengers and crew. On the bottom, it reads "Thank you to the pilots, crew, and N.Y.ers for all that you did, and all that you do."
The billboard was used for a political statement after President Barack Obama's win over Sen. John McCain.
Tim Scheld, Director of News and Programming for WCBS Newsradio 880, spotted this on his way to work Wednesday morning.
