Nobu to Pay $2.5 Million in Worker Tips Suit

NEW YORK (AP)  -- An international restaurant group partly owned by actor Robert De Niro has agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle a lawsuit over the way it handled worker tips.

The class action suit accused managers and sushi chefs at Nobu eateries of illegally taking a share of tips given to the wait staff.

Waiters also complained about being shortchanged on overtime.

Once legal fees are subtracted, the settlement would give each worker about $3,300. About 200 have already signed off on the settlement.

Lawyers for the workers filed court papers Friday in New York asking a judge to give final approval to the agreement.

Nobu has denied any wrongdoing. The restaurant company has 11 restaurants in the U.S. and eight abroad.
