Newark Mayor Cory Booker Blasts Proposed Upgrade of Izod Center
|
NEWARK, NJ (AP) -- Newark Mayor Cory Booker is opposed to a plan to upgrade the Izod Center.
The center, in the nearby Meadowlands, is competing with Newark's 18-month-old Prudential Center arena.
In a letter to Gov. Jon S. Corzine obtained by The Star-Ledger of Newark, Booker described the planned improvements as ``injurious'' to Newark. Booker also asked Corzine to force the Nets to play in Newark if the NBA team's plans to move to Brooklyn collapse.
Booker wants his fellow Democrat to veto any upgrades that the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority is considering.
Authority spokesman John Samerjan describes the Izod Center improvements as ``conceptual ideas.''
