NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- It was the furthest thing from a sterile hospital room, but yesterday the New York Subway played a part in the delivery of a bouncing baby girl.
Jeanie Colberg's water broke while riding the number 4 train to the hospital and by-stander Glennys Sanchez of the Bronx,
stepped in to help out.
"I hold heard hand and I told her, you know, breathe. You know, I was praying." said Sanchez.
She also comforted Colberg's 4 year old daughter.
The pregnant mother got off the train at Union Square where two EMTs and transit officer Rochelle Sanders were waiting for her.
The mother, Colberg, said she needed to push, "I need to do it now."
The emergency responders tried to tell her otherwise, but the baby had its own ideas:
Seven pound Jaylene Rochelle Colberg was delivered in the ambulance on the way to Beth Israel Medical Center.
The baby is doing fine and the mother is very grateful towards those who helped her, "Two beautiful people helping me. If it wasn't for them, I don't know where I'd be."
The baby's middle name was taken from the transit officer who assisted the mother.
