Swine Flu Closing Dozens of Schools in Tri-State Area

NEW YORK (AP/WCBS 880)  -- Two more New York City public schools are closing amid concerns about swine flu, and students will stay away longer than planned from a school that lost an assistant principal to the disease.

The city Health Department announced Wednesday that P.S. 242 and P.S. 130 will close Thursday for up to five school days because of an unusually high amount of flu-like sickness. Both are in Queens. The P.S 130 building also houses about 70 students from P.S 993.

Queens' I.S. 238 will reopen to students Tuesday, rather than Friday, as initially scheduled. Teachers still will return Friday.

I.S. 238 assistant principal Mitchell Wiener died of swine flu Sunday. His funeral was held Wednesday.
