Hail Storm Hits Washington Township, New Jerey

NEW YORK (WCBS 880)  -- Residents of some parts of Bergen County had to pull out their snow shovels Monday afternoon as a strong line of thunderstorms dumped "mothball" size hail on lawns and driveways in Westwood and Washington Township.

Karen Yates from Washington Township says she's never seen anything like it in her more than 30 years in town.  "You

couldn't see a foot in front of you" Yates told WCBS Newsradio 880.

No injuries were reported but those who experienced the storms couldn't believe their own eyes when the hail came calling just after 2:30pm this afternoon. The heavy rain in the area also knocked out service on New Jersey Transits Pascack Valley Train line for a time.

WCBS Chief Meterologist Craig Allen says these thunderstorms are torrential rainmakers that are moving slowly.

There will be scattered showers throughout the evening, most ending by midnight. These storms are bringing in some hail, high winds, and lots of lightning. Stay with WCBS Weather for the latest.
