Gov. Rell to Seek Federal Help After Conn. Tornado

HARTFORD, CT (AP)  -- Gov. M. Jodi Rell is seeking federal assistance to help Connecticut property owners affected by last Friday's violent storms, including a tornado that touched down in Wethersfield.

The Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security is assessing the damage.

The National Weather Service confirmed there was a tornado in Wethersfield. It traveled 1.7 miles, packing winds between 80 and 90 mph, knocking out power and uprooting trees.

The strong storms also produced hail and damaging wind that pulled trees down onto power lines throughout much of Farmington.
