CT Nursing Homes Settle with Union

HARTFORD, CT (AP)  -- Unionized nursing home workers say they've settled new contracts with 10 facilities, more than three months after their labor agreements expired.

The New England Health Care Employees Union, District 1199 says the agreements include a wage increase and preserve or improve key benefits for workers.

Contracts were settled with owners of facilities in New Britain, Stamford, Windsor and West Hartford. The union also reached a deal with Paradigm Healthcare Development, a new Connecticut corporation that bought six homes formerly owned by bankrupt Marathon Healthcare.

Those homes are in Waterbury, Torrington, Prospect, New Haven, West Haven and Norwalk.

In May, the union threatened a three-day strike, but withdrew its notices at the request of legislative leaders.
