NEW CASSEL, NY (AP) -- Police say a man turned his aunt's Long Island home into an underground fireworks shop, selling the devices to children on the eve of July Fourth.
The 45-year-old man was arrested Friday on misdemeanor charges of fireworks dealing and child endangerment. Nassau County police say investigators saw children under 13 go into the New Cassel home and emerge carrying plastic bags with what appeared to be fireworks sticking out.
Police say they seized about $500 worth of fireworks from the home. Investigators say neighbors alerted them to the situation.
The man was due to be arraigned Saturday. No telephone number for him could be found.
He faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
