Man Found Dead after Disappearing in Jamaica Bay

NEW YORK (AP)  -- Police say a body has been pulled from Jamaica Bay after a search for a fisherman in the waters off the coast of southwestern Long Island.

Police say the body of a male was pulled from the water late Sunday afternoon. He has not been identified.

The U.S. Coast Guard says two passers-by on Howard Beach saw the 19-year-old man and another fisherman struggling in the water near the North Channel Bridge about 2:30 p.m.

The Coast Guard says rescuers pulled one of the men out. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

But they say the other fisherman was possibly pulled into the sinkhole, an underwater depression.

The condition of the rescued fisherman was not immediately known. He has not been named.
