New Jersey Moulin Rouge to Change Name After Trademark Threat
ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- A New Jersey hair salon has decided to change its name from Salon Moulin Rouge after it was threatened with a trademark lawsuit.
The owners have spent thousands over the years decorating the shop in Rockaway Township with objects that represent the Paris cabaret. The stylists even wear Moulin Rouge aprons.
The salon owners received a letter from a lawyer who represents the Belgian company Moulin Rouge S.A. that owns the trademark.
Attorney Deborah Nilson says the company rarely sells the right to license the name. Nilson says she used Internet search engines to find the salon and other businesses using the Moulin Rouge name.
The salon owners say they'll hold a contest to let patrons pick a new name.
