MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey's SPCA is awaiting results of an autopsy as it investigates the death of a police dog.
Patton was an explosive-detecting dog assigned to the Mount Holly Police Department about three years ago.
Police Chief Steven Martin issued a statement saying Patton died Tuesday and was about 5 years old.
Details of the dog's death were not released.
SPCA spokesman Matt Stanton says the police department asked his agency to look into how the dog died.
