HAMILTON, N.J. (AP) -- State and federal law enforcement officials in New Jersey are announcing the results of their annual roundup of fugitives across the state.
The U.S. Marshals Service says the monthlong effort resulted in more than 800 fugitive arrests in New Jersey in June. That allowed local authorities to clear nearly 1,000 open arrest warrants.
Among those arrested was an alleged MS-13 gang member from Long Branch who's charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. The suspect was arrested in Tennessee.
The effort, dubbed Operation FALCON for Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally, uses the resources of the federal marshals service to give local law enforcement agencies greater ability to make cases outside their jurisdiction.
