Washed Up Whale in New Jersey Moves North

NEW YORK (WCBS 880)  -- A dead whale in New Jersey has been moved north by the tide.

A humpback whale is seen on the beach in Sea Bright, NJSEE: Photos of the Whale

The humpback whale washed up on the Monmouth Beach shore on Monday.

On Tuesday morning, it was found to be in Sea Bright.

WCBS listener Stephanie Klein says, "...the stomach was distended. The smell was not terrific, as you could well imagine."

Klein said the whale is about 20-30 feet long.

It is now being cut into pieces for burial somewhere on the beach.

Scientists were unable to take samples from the whale's insides because the heat destroyed them.

Bruising was seen on the whale, which suggest a cause of death - perhaps being hit by a boat.

The Asbury Park Press reported that the tide prevented a necropsy from being performed on Monday.
