MANCHESTER, CT (AP) -- Manchester police have charged a local woman with a felony after they say her 3-year-old child wandered from their home and managed to cross a busy street.
Twenty-six-year-old Kristen Purrott was charged with risk of injury to a minor after Thursday morning's incident. The crime carries up to 10 years in prison. She is to appear Friday in Manchester Superior Court.
Police say they were called to a supermarket where the child was found wearing an adult sweatshirt and wet pajama bottoms after crossing Parker Street.
Purrott says she had bought new locks for the doors and intended to install them Thursday because her child has a history of walking out of the house.
