Officials say voter turnout has been mixed, depending on the race. They say 131 towns are filling the offices of mayors or first selectman, although races in 22 towns are uncontested.
Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz says voter turnout has been higher in municipalities where there are hotly contested races, such Middletown and Stratford.
But turnout was expected to be low in big cities like Hartford and Bridgeport, where there are only races for school board and city council.
In many towns, voters are also deciding various referendum questions.
