NJ Parks Open to Contolled Deer Hunting

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) -- Morris County is again opening its parks to hunters on a limited basis in an effort to control a burgeoning deer population.
Hunters with special permits are being allowed in the parks on designated days between now and the end of February. The parks will be closed to the public on hunting days.
Bow hunting will be allowed on limited days through the end of the year. there will be a more limited shotgun season in January and February.
County officials say the goal is to improve the health of the woods. They say deer have destroyed native plant growth in many areas of the 14 county parks and pose a hazard to motorists.
More than 330 deer were harvested in a similar hunt last year.
