|
NEWARK, NJ (AP) -- Hoboken's acting mayor is going to get the job full-time.
Democrat Dawn Zimmer has been declared the winner of a special election to fill the vacancy left when former Mayor Peter Cammarano resigned three weeks into his term after his arrest on corruption charges.
Zimmer is the Hudson County city's first female mayor.
Zimmer defeated six candidates Tuesday and will serve until
2013.
In Atlantic City, incumbent Democrat Lorenzo Langford easily defeated Republican Jesse Kurtz and Independents Dennis Mason and Joseph Polillo.
Langford won a one-year term last year following a period of political turmoil in Atlantic City. His victory Tuesday earn him a full four-year term.
