It's the Yanks vs the Phillies in the Battle of the Bronx

NEW YORK (WCBS 880)  -- It's scoreless at the bottom of the 2nd as the Yankees try to wrap up their 27th World Series title and first since 2000.

It's a battle of the pitchers as Phillie's pitcher Pedro Martinez goes up against the Yankees' Andy Pettite tonight for Game 6 of the World Series. Once again, the Yanks are just one win away from taking their 27th World Championship.

As much as the Yankees enjoyed seeing their pitcher Andy Pettite drive in a game-tying run in game three, they are thrilled to be back in their home stadium where pitchers pitch, and designated hitters, hopefully, hit.

"Getting Matsui back is always important to our lineup – he’s been a huge hitter during the course of the year, a great RBI guy," said Girardi today.

We've seen Mariano Rivera pitch two innings to save a playoff game but three? Asked if he could do it, he said "Hopefully we don’t need it, but we're going to have to do whatever it takes to win the game."

While Rivera has appeared in more World Series games than any pitcher, tonight's starter, Andy Pettite, has won more playoff games than any other.

Pettite has already pitched the game-clinching wins versus the Angels and Twins - as for the Phillies, we will soon find out.
