AAA Mid-Atlantic says about 795,000 people - the lowest amount this decade - will travel at least 50 miles from home. That's down 4.8 percent from last year, a drop the auto club blames on the struggling economy.

AAA says 86 percent of travelers will go by auto, while just 6 percent plan to take an airplane. It expects airline travel to be down more than 13 percent from 2008, noting that air fares rose significantly last month - the time when most people were making their travel decisions.

Holiday travel in the Mid-Atlantic region - New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania - will be down 4 percent from 2008.
