Former Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy Running for Connecticut Governor
HARTFORD, CT (AP) -- Former Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy will be officially announcing his candidacy for Connecticut governor.
Malloy plans to declare his bid for this year's Democratic nomination on Wednesday in Hartford, after filing paperwork with the State Elections Enforcement Commission.
Malloy and Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont are the only declared Democratic candidates seeking to succeed Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell, who is not running for re-election. But several other Democrats are still exploring possible campaigns for governor.
Malloy won the Democratic nomination for governor in 2006, but lost in the primary to New Haven Mayor John DeStefano. DeStefano then lost the general election to Rell.
Malloy is a former prosecutor who served 14 years as mayor of Stamford.
