Martha Dean is Running for Connecticut Attorney General
HARTFORD, CT (AP) -- Avon lawyer Martha Dean has made it official, becoming the latest candidate to seek the Republican nomination for Connecticut attorney general.
Dean announced her campaign at a state Capitol news conference on Tuesday, vowing to create a climate that's friendly to business. She took aim at Democratic lawmakers, accusing them of stifling competition.
Dean says she would also cut the attorney general office's budget, reduce staff and scrutinize the hiring of outside law firms.
She won the Republican nomination in 2002 but lost to Democratic incumbent Richard Blumenthal, who's giving up the seat to run for U.S. Senate this year.
Two other Republicans, state Sen. Andrew Roraback and attorney John Pavia, are exploring runs for attorney general.
