BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK (AP) -- New York drivers soon will face greater penalties if they don't yield the right-of-way to bicyclists, motorcyclists or pedestrians.
A Binghamton-area lawmaker says Governor Pataki has signed into law a measure that could result in the license suspension or revocation of a driver involved in a crash resulting in serious injury or death.
Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo says vehicle drivers also could be required to participate in an accident prevention course.
A major organization of state motorcyclists lobbied for the crackdown on car and truck drivers who cause crashes that injure or kill bikers.
The state Assembly and Senate approved the bill in June.
