Chicago Bears Win Means Free Furniture

CHICAGO (AP)  -- The victory by the Chicago Bears on Sunday was also a huge windfall for a lot of their fans.

The owner of an Illinois furniture store told his customers on Labor Day Weekend that he'd reimburse them for any furniture they bought from him during that weekend -- if the Bears went on to shut out their opponent in their opening game this past Sunday. They could buy up to ten-thousand dollars' worth, and it would all be free, if the Bears shut out the Packers a week later.

Guess what happened? The Bears won, 26-to-nothing. And 206 lucky customers now have free furniture, worth a total of $300.000.

The store owner, Randy Gonigam, doesn't have to pay for all of it himself. He bought an insurance policy that would pay off if the shutout took place. So, he was able to sell all that extra furniture, without much risk.

Gonigam says he got the idea to offer full refunds for the weekend purchases after hearing Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher brag that the team would have the best defense in the NFL this year. He says he thought, ``prove it.''
