Students Showing Off Solar Home Today

OLD WESTBURY, NY (AP) -- It's an open house - but the house is not for sale. The students at the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury are showing off the solar home they are entering into a national contest in Washington, DC.

NYIT is one of 20 schools in the U.S. Department of Energy's 2007 Solar Decathlon.

The house is to be transported to the National Mall in Washignton in two weeks.

The small home is self sufficient for heating and cooling - usiing solar and geo-thermal systems.

The house will be judged in ten categories such as architecture; engineering; market viability; communications; comfort zone; appliances; hot water; lighting; energy balance; and getting around.
