ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) A jury deciding whether former New York
Senate Republican leader Joseph Bruno used his political office to
enrich himself is suspending deliberations until Monday.
The jury discussed the case all day, then decided to break over
the Thanksgiving holiday.
The 80-year-old retired politician faces eight federal fraud
counts. Prosecutors told a jury in Albany that Bruno schemed to
defraud New Yorkers and misrepresented or concealed his sideline
business dealings.
Bruno insists he did nothing wrong and never betrayed the
public's trust.
Bruno retired last year after 32 years in the Senate and more
than 13 years as the leader of its Republican majority.
